Tell me—how many times have you scrolled through Instagram, only to find yourself checking out with a dress you didn’t even know you wanted?
It happens fast. A reel flashes by. Someone looks stunning. You don’t even realize you’ve been influenced—until that dress shows up at your door. You try it on… and it looks hideous. The color’s wrong. The vibe’s off. You look nothing like the girl on the screen.
Sound familiar?
This isn’t just bad luck. It’s a case of the wrong colors.
Before I discovered my true colors, I was easily influenced by every makeup and hair recommendation I encountered. This led me to blonde hair and a collection of makeup that never quite worked for me.
One of my greatest inspirations was my friend, who effortlessly wore cool pinks and mauves. I admired how these shades looked on her and, in my desire to recreate that beauty, I kept purchasing similar lipsticks.
However, despite my best efforts, none of these shades flattered me. They simply didn’t enhance my features the way I hoped. Yet, on her, they were flawless. I so wanted them to work for me, but they never did.
When we deeply admire someone, it’s easy to slide into imitation. We start wearing what they wear. Doing our hair like theirs. Even absorbing their mannerisms. And while style inspiration is a beautiful thing, blindly copying someone else’s look—especially their color palette—will always leave us feeling like something’s off.
Knowing your seasonal colors installs a filter in your mind. A visual boundary that gently guides your decisions. Suddenly, your style becomes clearer. Shopping becomes easier. And you no longer feel the pull to buy every trending thing you see online—because you know whether or not it will serve you.
You’re not lost in someone else’s aesthetic. You’re building your own—with strategic wardrobe choices and a deeper understanding of color theory in fashion.
So yes, fall in love with that influencer fashion moment. Save the look. Let it inspire you.
But when you go to buy it… GET IT IN YOUR COLORS
Because the moment you stop copying and start aligning with your own essence, your style becomes unmistakably yours.
